Marina Capdevila
Marina Capdevila’s distinct style – the Spanish artist deliberately packs a punch – stems from her practice as an illustrator. But there is one more reason why she stands out as a street artist: her subjects! The artist is particularly inspired by the beauty and zest for life of the elderly. With her grandmother as her spirit animal, she creates vivid, even fiery portraits of older people. They’re a critique of the under-representation of over a third of the population in both the arts and the media. Occasionally, though, a political message also creeps into her work, as she most definitely wants to show her support for the Palestinian people with those watermelons.
